Blues Top 4,000gns at Carlisle

The “Blues” topped at 4,000gns at the Border British Blue Clubs’ Autumn Sale, held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Friday 3rd October 2014.

Against a backdrop of buyers being very selective across all breeds, during this autumn’s bull sales, the “Blues” averaged a very respectable £3,615.

Judge for the day, Brian Hall, Ainstable Hall put up as his Champion, Springhill Hammer, a November 2012 son of Lotto VD Vloeikenshoeve, out of Springhill Fizz, bred and exhibited by Martin Bros. Hammer has 400-day growth figures in the top 35% of the breed and breed average figures for carcase profitability index and finds a new home with Vickers and Richardson, Bickley, Scarborough for 3,000gns.

The Reserve Champion ticket went to Luce Water Hercules ET, a son of Solway View Antonio out of Auchlane Beatexus, bred and exhibited by Ben Haigh. R Downie, Ballater, Aberdeenshire was the successful purchaser at 3,800gns.

The Female Champion being Stowbeck Freda ET, a daughter of Empire D’Ochain out of Norbreck Baltimore, bred and exhibited by Skirwith Hall Farms Ltd. Boasting 400-growth figures in the top 5% of the breed and carcase profitability index in the very top of the breed, she sold with her March ’13 born heifer calf at foot for 2,300gns to Ben Haigh, Airyhemming, Newton Stewart.

The leading price of the day was Ryden Invincible, a black son of Annanwater Vince out of Annanwater Black Beauty, bred and exhibited by Andy and Steph Ryder, being knocked down for 4,000gns, to TR & EA Milburn, Brampton, Cumbria.

Stonebyres Harris ET, by Bringlee Volkawagon out of Stonebyres Caprice, from A & CS Comrie, found a new home with A & K Rhind & Son, Forres, Morayshire at 3,700gns. Harris being in the top 20% of the breed for growth.

Stonebyres Hamish ET out of the same stable, sold for 3,600gns, to N Cooper & Sons, Broughton in Furness.

Auctioneer, Jimmy Little, commented “As we are experiencing generally, for all breeds, over this autumn’s bull sales, trade was very selective, with animals picked out by buyers being highly sought after.”

It was reported that a number of vendors were holding cattle over for the Society’s forthcoming sale at Welshpool and at Borderway Mart, in January.
