Sixteenth Annual Open Calf Show

The Border British Blue Club staged their Sixteenth annual open calf show on Friday 23rd January 2015 at Borderway Mart, Carlisle when all of the 17 catalogued entries were forward for judging. This was made up of 5 males and 12 females all UK born pedigree registered calves born on or after 1st January 2014.

The club would like to thank Harrison and Hetherington Ltd for the catalogue and the premises, Massey Bros. (Feeds) for the Perpetual Shield awarded to the champion calf, Norbreck Genetics for the Perpetual Shield for the winner of the young handler class & McCaskie Farm Supplies for the prize money.

The Judge Andrew Haste, Stoneleigh Herd had the very difficult task of judging the calves and commented that the quality of calves was tremendous with a lot of future stars in the making.

The female and overall championship was awarded to Kelly Blackwood & Duncan Davidson with Blackstane J’Adore an April 2014 daughter out of Lyonpark Gaynor and by Gitan du P’Tit Mayeur (IS). J’Adore is no stranger to the show ring having took 2nd place in a strong class at the Agri-Expo 2014.

Female and Overall Champion - Blackstane J’Adore

The reserve female championship went to Wyn Jones with Tanat J Lo ET a January 2014 daughter from the Adajio de Bray (IS) and Boomer Fendi ET flush. J Lo was 2nd in her class at the Agri-Expo 2014.

The male and reserve overall championship was awarded to Kevin Watret with Solway View Jackpot an 11 month old calf who is another outstanding calf from the 2011 Royal Highland Show champion Solway View Firecracker (SR) ET. He isout of Bringlee Evadine ET. Jackpot won 1st, male, reserve overall champion & best animal opposite sex to the champion at the Agri-Expo 2014.

Kevin Watret, took the reserve male championship with a Ballygrange Alex son, Solway View Jim Beam ET a May 2014 bull out of Annanwater Wispa ET flush.

Izzy Hartley Clinched the Norbreck Perpetual Trophy once more, with Ross Comrie in second place and young Joe Pattinson in 3rd place.
