Belgian Blues Top 3000gns at Dungannon

29 October 2005

Buyers were cautious and selective at the Northern Ireland Belgian Blue Clubs’ Autum Annual Show and Sale held at Dungannon on 29th October 2005, with quality being sought after.

The “Lukeroyal” Herd of Mel & Diane Lucas came out top both in the show ring and under the hammer. Judge, Adrian Richardson from the “Hillview” Herd at Maguiresbridge, placed “Lukeroyal Warrior ET” as his Male and Supreme Champion. Warrior is a son of the well used sire “Affute Du Ry Ossogne” out of “Lukeroyal Powder Puff.” M Rogers was the successful bidder and takes him home to Ballynahinch.

The Reserve Champion came from Martin Bros. Springhill Herd, with “Springhill Vanguard,” sired by “Cornlan Ryan,” who was selected under the MLC ‘Young Bull Promotion Scheme’ a few of years ago and was out of “Springhill Tanya” .

W J Ervine sold his 3rd place prizewinner, “Knockagh Viking ET” @ 2,400 gns. This BQI Elite carcass bull was sired by “Serieux De Fooz” and was out of “Woodview Ray.” The successful purchaser was Robert MaCahon from Aghadowey.

“Scad Hill Winner” was next in line, from Noel Gilchrist. “Winner” stood 2nd in his class and went on to sell for 2,300 gns. He was sired by the successful “Ballee Secret” out of the homebred “Scad Hill Skippy.”

The “Lukeroyal” stable also collected the prizes in the female section, when their white heifer “Lukeroyal Vera ET” was selected as Female Champion. Vera is a lovely correct, clean heifer and was also out of the same dam as the Supreme Champion but this time the sire was the renowned Belgian bull, “Serum D’Anloy.”

Adrian Richardson selected, as his 2nd prize and Reserve Female, “Greenfield Venus” from Basil Dougherty. She was sired by the widely used “Seduisant De Fooz” and was out of Basil’s homebred cow “Greenfield Polly.”

Gordon Buchanan brought forward his 3rd prizewinner “Cassan Vanessa.” Vanessa was sired by Gordon’s stock bull “Beechmount Stanley” out of the imported cow “Orphee Et Van De Wolvendreef.” She was due to calve to “Philipper De Remichampagne” at the end of February but left the ring unsold at 1,100 gns.

The Northern Ireland British Blue Club are indebted to “Northern Bank Ltd” for their generous sponsorship of the show and sale.”
