2000 calf show

Annual Open Calf Show

The Border Belgian Blue Club held their second annual open calf show on Thursday, 17th February 2000 at Borderway Mart, Carlisle when they had a catalogued entry of 40 head, comprising 17 males and 23 females. The show was kindly sponsored by British Linalux, Harrison and Hetherington Limited, The British Blue Cattle Society and the Border Club.

A tankard will be awarded annually to the winner of the young handler class by Agri-Lloyd. The show was open to all UK born pedigree registered calves, all of which had to be exhibitor bred and not more than 18 months of age on the day of show.

The judging was carried out by Pauline Adams from the renowned Park Herd which is based at Park House, Watford, Northampton, who commented that she was very impressed with the quality on offer, especially the heifers.

She awarded the male championship to local breeders SJ & RR Brough, Buckabank Farm, Dalston with Carrock Patron ET an August 1998 son of Visconti De St Fontaine and out of Lenborough Melody. The reserve male championship went J & E Coates, Rainscar Farm, Stainforth, Settle, N. Yorkshire with their entry Greystone Romeo a June, 1999 born son of Gregmaur Noah and out of their own cow Cameo.

The female championship was awarded to DA Williams, Lodge Hill Farm, Shifnal, Shropshire with Wilodge Pandora ET an October, 1998 daughter of Marquis du Molinia whose progeny has sold up to 4,800gns Carlisle September 1998 and out of Ridge Dean Niagra. The reserve female championship went to Glen Forsyth, High Bishopton, Whithorn, Wigtownshire with Bishopton Rebecca Danish an April 1999 daughter of Djinn De L'Ermitage and out of his own cow Nina ET Danish.

Glen Forsyth then went on to win the progeny group with Rebecaa and his second prize male Bishopton Rambo a May,1999 born son of Djinn and out of Bowland Kate. The reserve progeny group went to two Philipper bred heifer calves the first Belldale Ravanelly a February, 1999 born calf out of Kenray Kizzy was exhibited by Border Club Chairman Stuart Bell, Blackhamilton, Blackford and Tamhorn Rosehip ET a May, 1999 born calf out of Norbreck Kitty ET shown by Jane Wyllie, Pessall Farm, Edingale, Nr Tamworth, Staffs. Philipper De Remichampagne's progeny have sold for 5,800gns, 5,200gns 5,000gns etc Carlisle May 1999.
