FLYING SALE FOR QUALITY BLUES AT CARLISLE
The Border British Blue Club staged their Twentieth Annual Autumn Show & Sale
at Carlisle, when auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Borderway
Mart, Rosehill offered for sale a good selection of British Blue Cattle.
Numbers entered were good, with members travelling the distance to support
this annual event. With a lead call of 10,500gns and a further 8 bids
of 4,000gns and above, the overall average for bulls was up on the year.
The show and sale was kindly sponsored by Dodd & Co, KW Electrics,
Animax, Garry Phillips Polaris, Galloway & MacLeod (Class Prize Money)
and the championship awards were sponsored by Genus ABS and the BBG Group,
British Blue Cattle Society and Border Club (Advertising).
The judge, David Pearson, (Boherard Herd), Boherard, Clough, Portlaoise,
Republic of Ireland had the difficult task of judging the show. He commented
that “there was a fantastic show of correct animals with a great
balance of muscle, mobility and overall length”. The Male & Supreme
Championship was awarded to Jason & Jennifer Edgar, 4 Ballyhossett
Road, Downpatrick, Co. Down, N Ireland for their outstanding black and
white bull Ballyhossett Duke. This 17 month old bull, by Empire D’Ochain
(IS) and out of a Ridge
Dean Mahogany bred daughter Knockagh Whoopee
ET, on his only show outing he was Supreme Champion at Castlewellan Show,
which was one of the biggest shows of Blue cattle this year with over
70 head of entries. Duke was knocked down for the top price of 10,500gns
to M & A Eddon, Whitethorn Farm, Cropton, Pickering, Yorkshire.

The judge awarded the Reserve Male and Reserve Supreme Championship
to Crackley Bank Cannon ET, a November 2007 son of the Cajoleur De Rettigny
(IS) and Bringlee Sandy ET flush. He was exhibited by Paul Walker, Horsepool
Farm, Hunnington, West Midlands. This exceptional blue and white bull
was sold to an Undisclosed Buyer for 9,000gns.

Also hitting the high spots at 7,000gns was the 2nd prize winning bull
from Michele Wilde, Ridge Dean Farm, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire.
Ridge Dean Dynamite ET, a March 2008 bull from the Empire D’Ochain
and Ridge Dean Valentine ET flush was purchased by G & H Jerman,
Tynyrwtra, Adfa, Newtown, Powys.

An AI son of Daffyd D’Ochain was next in the price ratings. Harestone
Daredevil bred and exhibited by Neil R Barclay, Harestone Farm, Crathes,
Banchory, Aberdeenshire was placed 4th in his class. This 17 month old
is out of a Serum daughter, Woodview Trixie ET. Daredevil was successfully
purchased by Wyn Griffiths & Son, Ty Mawr Ucha, Abregele, Conwy for
5,500gns.
Leading the ladies at 4,000gns was the 2nd prize and top price for HW
Timm’s Timos herd, for Asby Chloe, a 29 month old daughter of Baroque
De L’Ecluse (IS) and Ridge Dean Super Star. Chloe was bred by HR
Hayton & Son, Great Asby, Appleby and sold to CTW & D Ennion,
Moulin Farms, Head of Moulin, Logielmond, Perth.

Next at 3,500gns was the Reserve Female Champion Franks Daffodil Dream
ET, from the Franks stable for D Whiteley & J Courts, Pond Farm,
Scawton, Thirsk. This stylish blue and white, 18 month old heifer is
by Gitan Du P’Tit and out of Blue Chip Tartan. Signing the cheque
is Page Bros, Lodge Farm, Elkington, Northampton.
The female champion and winner of the ‘Wilodge Perpetual Shield’ for
the Best Animal Opposite Sex to the Champion was awarded to HW Timm’s heifer
Castlecuff Belle who left the sale ring unsold.
