Border British Blue Club Open Calf ShowFriday 30th October 2009 The Border British Blue Club staged their second annual open calf show on Friday 30th October at the Borderway Agri-Expo 2009 at Borderway Mart, Carlisle when nearly all of the 59 catalogued entries were forward for judging. This was made up of 24 males and 35 females all UK born pedigree registered calves born on or after 1st October 2008. The club would like to thank the sponsors of this event, Norbreck Genetics who supplied the prize money and the club provided the rosettes and hospitality on the stand. Trophies - David Dickinson Memorial Trophy for the overall champion calf; BK Ryder Memorial Trophy for the reserve overall champion calf; Bellas Perpetual Trophy for the best animal opposite sex to the champion, Norbreck Genetics Perpetual Trophy for the breeder with the most points and the Pendle plaque for the winner of the young handler class presented by the Hartley family. Chairman Steve Pattinson would like to thank all those who supplied cattle for the British Blue stand at the Agri-Expo they certainly generated a lot of interest and were a great spectacle for the breed. He would also like to say a big thank you to all those who helped on the Blue stand. It was very much appreciated. The Judge, Benoir Cassart who travelled from Belgium commented that the quality of cattle on show was fantastic. The overall championship was awarded to the Bellas family with Croftends Emma ET a January 2009, exceptionally well grown, black and white daughter of Empire D’Ochain (IS) and out of the Croftends Belle ET flush. Alan Dickinson brother of the late David Dickinson (official society auctioneer to the British Blue Cattle Society 1989-2007) presented the David Dickinson memorial trophy to the Bellas family. The reserve overall championship went to Jim Kennedy with Lyonpark Evelien ET a February 2009, well grown daughter of Gitan Du P’Tit Mayeur (IS) and out of the Woodview April ET flush. The BK Memorial Trophy for the reserve overall champion animal was presented to Jim Kennedy. The Bellas family presented the Bellas Trophy for the best animal opposite sex to the champion to Tim Mountford with Hartley Excalibur a January 2009 son of Bringlee Blackstar ET and out of Oxcroft Belinda ET. Ted Haste, President of the British Blue Cattle Society was invited
to judge the young handler class. He thoroughly enjoyed talking to
the handlers on parade but said that it was a shame the entry level
was not higher, however those that entered will all make very good
stockmen in the future." The handler class was won by Josh Bellas
making it another celebration for the Bellas family.
