Bloomin Trade Again For Blues!
British Blue Breeders enjoyed a bumper days trading at the Border British Blue Club's Twenty-fifth Annual Spring Show & Sale at Carlisle on Saturday 16th May 2015. Top call of the day was 16,000gns and a further three bulls broke the five figure barrier. There was a strong commercial trade throughout the day and buyers keenly bidding on animals which met their criteria, resulting in a 92% clearance, which is fantastic. There was a good number of females offered for sale with maiden heifers averaging £2,968. The auctioneer worked tirelessly to maintain the trade throughout the day's proceedings.
The show and sale was kindly sponsored by Cogent Signature Beef & Show Winners.
The judge, newly appointed Society President John Hall, Inglewood Edge, Dalston had the unenviable task of judging the 11 classes and championships the day prior to the sale. John made some sound judgements, as most of the top priced animals had been placed in their classes.
Five years after Andrew Kay, Gass Farm, Straiton, Ayrshire made his debut to Carlisle & topped the market at the same sale with his reserve senior male champion, Gass Cheggers, Andrew Kay, presented Gass Iron Man which was knocked down for the same price of 16,000gns to V & G Bowring, Lakeside Cottage, The Park, Mansfield Notts. Iron Man stood 1st in his class, Senior Male Champion, Reserve Overall Male Champion & Reserve Supreme Champion. He is an exceptionally long, nearly all black, 26 month old bull by the noted show winning sire Solway View Firecracker (SR) and out of a homebred cow Gass Cindy ET.
Also selling at 8,200gns was Lukeroyal Isaiah ET from regular consignors Mel & Diane Lucas, Co. Antrim. This mainly black, stylish 19 month old bull from the Droit Ebenezer ET and Lukeroyal Eva ET flush was knocked down to L Guy & Son, Home Farm, Gilmonby, Barnard Castle, Co. Durham.
Next in the price ratings, from A & I MacInness, Isle of Tiree, Argyll was Ruaig Icon by Ruaig Ex Factor and out of Ruaig Donna. Icon stood 2nd in his class and was successfuly purchased for 8,000gns by R Thornton & Son, Cornhills, Kirkwhelpington, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
The leading female price of 6,500gns went to the aforementioned Jason & Sarah Wareham of the Warehams Herd with Tamhorn Eden ET who was bred by Danny & Jane Wyllie. Eden is by the noted Ballygrange Alex and Gregmaur Brandy flush. She sold with her heifer calf at foot Warehams Jammie Dodger. This exceptionally well bred unit was keenly bid for and joins the herd of GA Jones, Bod Y Chain Uchaf, Nasareth, Caernarfon.
The Reserve Female Champion sold for 5,000gns to the aforementioned EH Pennie & Son, Gwern Yr Ychain. Rockfield Holly ET from the Dafydd D'Ochain and Rockfield Faith ET flush was exhibited by Oliver McGuinness, Co. Londonderry.
JE Bellas & Son, Croft Ends Farm, Appleby took their single entry & 3rd prize winning heifer into the ring and was bid to 4,500gns for Croftends Izzy ET. This February 2013 born heifer from the Cromwell Fendt (SR) and Croftends Becky ET flush was successfully purchased by JE Lancaster, Roseleigh, Appleby to join his Fell View Herd.
Mark & Elaine Hartley, Nelson, Lancs sold their 1st prize winning junior heifer to MJA Ward & Daughters, York House Farm, Whitby, N Yorkshire for 4,000gns. Pendle Juliette, a sweet blue and white, 10 month old heifer by Greystone Carbon and out of the homebred cow Pendle Freya.
