Seventeenth Annual Open Calf Show

The Border British Blue Club staged their Seventeenth annual open calf show on Friday 22nd January 2016 at Borderway Mart, Carlisle when nearly all of the 25 catalogued entries were forward for judging. This was made up of 12 males and 13 females all UK born pedigree registered calves born on or after 1st January 2015.

The club would like to thank Harrison and Hetherington Ltd for the catalogue and the premises, Massey Bros. (Feeds) for the Perpetual Shield awarded to the champion calf, Norbreck Genetics for the Perpetual Shield for the winner of the young handler class.

The Judge Victoria Bowring, Windmill Herd had the very difficult task of judging the calves.

The female and overall championship was awarded to Mark & Elaine Hartley with Pendle Knock Em Out a March 2015 daughter of Heros Du Peroy (IS) and out of Pendle E By Gum.

The reserve female championship was also awarded to Mark & Elaine Hartley with Pendle Kiwi a May 2015 calf by Jalon De Martinpre (IS) and out of Pendle Glitzy ET.

The male and reserve overall championship went to Kevin Watret with Solway View Kelvin ET an April 2015 son from the Solway View Firecracker (SR) ET and Bringlee Evadine ET flush.

Mark & Elaine Hartley, took the reserve male championship with a strong Jalon de Martinpre (IS) son, Pendle Kracker an April 2015 bull out of Pendle Heather.

The Hartley family went on to win the Progeny group with two Jalon de Martinpre (IS) calves. Pendle Kiwi (1st in her class, reserve female champion) and Pendle Kracker (2nd in his class & reserve male champion).

9 year old Hollie Bellas clinched the Norbreck Perpetual Trophy, followed by Joe Pattinson in second place. In third place was Ross Comrie & 4th Emma Bellas.
