Carlisle Blues Hit 12,000gns Twice
British Blue Breeders showcased a quality line-up of cattle with exceptional power and quality at the Border British Blue Club’s Twenty-sixth Annual Spring Show & Sale at Carlisle on Saturday 21st May 2016 with a joint top call of 12,000gns for the overall male champion & reserve overall male champion.
The show and sale was kindly sponsored by Show Winners & Cogent.
The judge, Glyn Howatson, Ty Newydd, Nantglyn, Denbigh, Clwyd had the task of judging the 15 classes and championships the day prior to the sale.
First of the joint top prices through the ring on 12,000gns was lot 82 Rhymil Jagerbomb ET, a dark blue roan entry from Rhys Millichap. Jagerbomb won his class then went on to secure the Junior Male Champion, Overall Male Champion & Supreme Champion. He is a 21 month old son of the Gitan Du Pti’t Mayeur and Paulern Audrey ET flush. Jagerbomb is no stranger to the show ring having won 1st prize at the 2015 Royal Highland Show. He sold to DJ Lloyd & Co of Caersws, Powys.
Also selling at the same price was lot 46 Aultmore Jumbo ET shown by Garry Patterson. This 23 month old entry is from the Gregmaur Osman and Netherdale Deva ET flush. Qualifying as a Superior Carcase Sire, Jumbo won his class and took the Reserve Junior & Reserve Overall Male championship. Jumbo was also shown successfully during the summer of 2015 winning numerous Championships to his credit. He was purchased by A Neachell & Son for their Cromwell herd based in Staffordshire.
A further two bull entries sold for 10,000gns each, lot 98 Woodend Kenzie the single entry from Greg Jackson was sold to J Lee of Whitfield, Hexham. Kenzie is a 16 month old son of Bringlee Volkawagon ET and out of Springfield Gloria, he stood 3rd in his class. Greg Jackson also wins the ‘Brian Wheatley Memorial Trophy’for the highest priced animal owned by a member of the Border British Blue Club.
Next on 10,000gns was the last bull through the ring, another Superior Carcase Sire, lot 106 Liley Knight from Marsdens Farms Ltd. This 13 month old sold by Dafydd d’Ochain and out of Tweeddale Heidi stood 2nd in his class and sold to Wyn & Linda Morgan to join their Ty Isaf herd based in Newtown.
Also hitting the high spots at 9,800gns was lot 48 Cromwell Jaguar, the 3rd prize winning bull from A Neachell & Son. This June 2014 born black bull is by Ballygrange Dudley and out of Banquise De La Bocheroule. Jaguar was knocked down to EA Davies, Llangadog, Carmarthenshire.
Next in the price ratings, also from Garry Patterson was lot 83 Aultmore Jasper ET, an eye-catching 21 month old, black & white bullfrom the Twyning Ash Vaughan & Aultmore Gucci ET flush. Qualifying as a Superior Carcase Sire, Jasper stood 2nd in his class and was successfully purchased for 9,000gns by J Hyslop & Sons, Netherton Farm, Biggar.
Kevin Watret took his Reserve Senior Male Champion into the ring and was bid to 8,500gns to an undisclosed buyer. Lot 40 Solway View Jayz ET, is an exceptional 2 year old bull, from the Ballygrange Alex and Annanwater Wispa ET flush.
Also on 8,500gns was lot 75 Almeley Jasper, a 22 month old black & white bull from GL & KS Morgan. Jasper, a powerful bull by Drybarrows Cawdale and out of Almeley Delia was successfully knocked down to Smallburn Farms Ltd, Elgin, Morayshire.
Blair & Shona Comrie of the Stonebyres herd based in Lanarkshire took the next leading price at 8,000gns. Lot 28 Stonebyres Jake, an April 2014 bull, by Tamhorn Enterprising ET and out of Stonebyres Divina ET stood 1st in his class in the show. He was sold to Messrs Metcalfe, Edenhall, Penrith, Cumbria. Jake also qualified as a Superior Carcase Sire.
The leading female price went to the Female Champion & Reserve Supreme Champion from Richard Mowbray with lot 114 Droit Janelle ETfrom the Gitan Du P’Tit Mayeur and Droit Fancy ET flush. Janelle was purchased by Kevin Watret to join his Solway View herd for 6,000gns.
Mark & Elaine Hartley sold their 2nd prize winning heifer, lot 141 Pendle Kit Kat for 5,500gns to Messrs Michalatos, Lisvane, Cardiff. Kit Katan 11 month old black & white heifer calf by Blue Stone Union Jack and out of Pendle Witch was very keenly sought after.
Also from Richard Mowbray with his 3rd prize winning heifer lot 115 Droit Julie ET. Julie a December 2014 born heifer from the Mountjoy Utopia and Droit End ET flush was knocked down for 5,000gns to A Burleigh, Ballindarragh, N. Ireland.
Next in the price ratings on 4,000gns was the 1st prize winning heifer from HR & WJ Maudsley. Lot 137 Littlebank Kylie ET, a January 2014 born heifer from the Dafydd D’Ochain and Woodview Wanda ET flush joins the Birdswood herd of T Okell, Aston.
The Reserve Female Champion sold for 3,600gns to Stephen & Sarah Hough, Pontefract, West Yorkshire to join their Featherstone herd. Lot 108 Drews Jersey ET, a January 2014 born heifer, who was bred by AJ Coppinger and shown by Norbreck Genetics Ltd and is from the Empire D’Ochain and Bringlee Beth ET flush.
