Borderway Agri-Expo 2019 Open British Blue Calf Show

The Border British Blue Club staged their twelfth annual open calf show on Friday 1st November 2019 at the Borderway Agri-Expo 2019 at Borderway Mart, Carlisle when there was a catalogued entry of 52 calves. This was made up of 24 males and 28 females all UK born pedigree registered calves born on or after 1st October 2018.
The club would like to thank the sponsors of this event, Davidsons Animal Feeds who supplied the prize money.
Trophies - David Dickinson Memorial Trophy for the overall champion calf; BK Ryder Memorial Trophy for the male champion calf; Bellas Perpetual Trophy for the female champion calf, Norbreck Genetics Perpetual Trophy for the breeder with the most points and the Pendle plaque for the winner of the young handler class presented by the Hartley family.
Chairman Blair Comrie would like to thank all those who supplied cattle for the British Blue stand at the Agri-Expo they certainly generated a lot of interest and were a great spectacle for the breed. He would also like to say a big thank you to all those who helped on the Blue stand & supplied tray bakes. It was very much appreciated.
The Judge, Blair Comrie, (Stonebyres Herd) commented;
“I was delighted to stand in for Michael Phillips and hope he has a speedy recovery. All the calves were a credit to their owners and a tremendous advert for the breed at such a well-attended event. With such a high standard of calves, I felt the overall champion was outstanding”.
Exhibitors travelled the length and breadth of the country to support this event which has grown to be the winter show of choice.
The male & overall championship went to Kevin Watret with Solway View Niko ET. A November 2018 born bull calf from the Bedgebury Kent and Solway View Kesha ET flush. He was presented the Ryder Farming Perpetual Trophy for the male champion and David Dickinson memorial trophy (official society auctioneer to the British Blue Cattle Society 1989-2007) for the overall championship. Niko also won the Most Promising Bull under 12 months in the recent Club Herd Competition.
The reserve male & reserve overall championship was awarded to Henry Jewitt with Sunnybank Orlando ET a February 2019 born bull calf from the Bedgebury Kent and Meadowrig Ladana ET Flush.
Mr & Mrs N Jenkinson won the female championship with Dymond Blue Nymphea ET. A November 2018 born heifer from the Manchester du Bois Remont and Drift Holly ET flush. They were presented the Bellas Perpetual Trophy for champion female.
Taking the reserve female championship was, Netherton Ofilia ET, a March 2019 born heifer from J Hyslop & Sons. Ofilia is from the Attribut du Fond de Bois and Woodend Leanna flush.
There were 5 very competitive young handlers competing for the Pendle plaque but it was Hollie Bellas who won the Pendle plaque for the fourth time! Well done Hollie.
The Norbreck Genetics perpetual trophy for the breeder with the most points was again awarded to Kevin Watret (Solway View Herd).
