Sam, 14, is Judged Stockman of the Year
January 2013
Sam Madeley is a young man on a mission, he is aiming to become a professional
stockman and one of the best. He has already made a flying start by
winning not only the Champion beast class with his Pedigree British
Blue Steer at the English Winter Fair in Stafford, but he was also
named as the Champion Stockman.
He was judged, in and out of the ring, by mystery judges and was selected from over 200 other stockmen to win the prestigious John Yates Memorial Challenge Trophy.
His parents, who farm at Glewstone, are extremely proud of him, not
least because they think he is the youngest person ever to win the
award.
They have a herd of pedigree Simmentals and usually attend shows in
the summer but gave it a miss this year due to the weather. Sam has
his own herd of pedigree Simmentals and British Blue and won the Three
Counties Young Handler award earlier this year.
Sam, a pupil at John Kyrle High School, is already looking forward to next year and he has started giving help and advice to other people who want to show their animals. Sam is determined to take over the farm in the future and it looks as if he has the right attitude for the task.
