British Blue calves to £455 at Holsworthy

A massive show of calves on 30th April at Holsworthy, topped at £455 for a strong pair of British Blue x bull calves from MW & AC Vanstone, Chilsworthy. Younger, quality, British Blue x bulls selling to £405, from RW & R Risdon, North Tamerton. Also from the same vendor were heifer calves to £312 and £282, with plenty of heifers in excess of the £200 mark.

In all, 32 British Blue x bull calves were forward, topping at £455, with an average of £288.75. 28 Heifers averaged £190.04, topping at £312.

Three British Blue x stirks sold well with a young British Blue x steer selling for £558 with another pair at £495 from Messrs. AB Lake & Sons, Weare Gifford.

Winning the Genus prize of £25 of semen vouchers, for the highest priced calves sired by a Genus bull, was won by Moorview Farm Ltd, Milton Damerel, with a British Blue steer, sired by Moorsley Anderson, with the heifer section going to Messrs. J & M Ovens, Brendon, Halwill, also sired by Moorsley Anderson.
