British Blue's Dominate at Gisburn

An outstanding entry of prime cattle were forward at Gisburn Auction Marts Christmas prime cattle show and sale on Thursday 4th December 2014.
Pre-sale show judges Stephen & Anthony Swales of Knavesmire Butchers, York picked out Cropper & Mellin’s November 2013 born, British Blue Steer, weighing 498kgs, as the champion beast, having earlier in the day picked up the first prize for the best British Blue steer, backing their own judgement the judges purchased the beast at £2141 or 430p/kg; the prime beef from this animal will be on sale for Christmas week at the award winning Knavesmire Butchers shop in York.
Cropper & Mellin’s also took the reserve champion award and earlier winner of the best heavy weight British Blue heifer, born April 2013, this time weighing in at 538kgs sold for the day’s top price of £2744 or a staggering 510p p/kg, the purchaser was Alan Beecroft on behalf of Country Style Meats Farm Shop, Lancaster.
David Capstick, Hellifield, Skipton was delighted to win first prize in the homebred animal class, with a British Blue steer, sired by Balzier Wee Wallace out of a homebred cow, weighing 492kgs which sold for £1427 or 290p/kg to Bowland Foods, Preston.
The very capable young lady-Charlotte Critchley, Hutton, Preston picked up first prize in the best animal shown by a young farmer, with her 514kgs British Blue steer which sold for £1552 or 302p/kg to Countrystyle Meats Farm Shop.
