Newark’s Super Saturday - Blue X Calves Top at £2,000
25th March 2015
It was quite simply a Super Saturday of livestock, in the cattle ring an outstanding show of suckled calves and store and breeding cattle met a fierce demand, at Newark.
Without a doubt a highlight of the day
was a consignment of suckled calves from the Baldwin family, Stuart,
his wife Debbie and son and daughter, Joel and Megan, who brought
more than 100 head from their herd at Wigan, to Newark. Auctioneer,
Paul Gentry commented;
"Once again this was a quality run
of suckled calves which saw buyers eager to secure top quality
calves for finishing and breeding. These calves, largely by British
Blue bulls and out of Limousin cows, sold to a fierce pace and
peaked at £2000 for a heifer, while steers from the same home sold
to £1700, with 107 averaging £1059.07.”
Other highlights of the cattle trade included a pure British Blue heifer from Mike Scott, Newark, at £2000, while Michele Wilde, Leighton Buzzard, sold British Blue cross Holstein cows with British Blue bull calves at foot at £2500.00. Andrew Bishop, Eldersfield, then sold British Blue cross 12 month old heifers to £1750.
