Portadown Sale23rd November 2000 It was standing room only at the Portadown Belgian Blue Show & Sale on 23rd November 2000, as the power of the double muscle drew the biggest crown this season to the Automart venue. Enjoying success at the double was Coleraine based Sam Milliken, who impressed the judging panel with his entry of two bulls which were awarded both the Supreme and Reserve Championships. The judging was in the capable hands of father and son partnership Michael and Tim Hannon, who traveled from Co Limerick to place one of the largest entries to date. The Supreme Champion was a worthy winner and later laid claim to the highest sale price of 3600 guineas. Sired by Croft Minister and out of a Norbreck Jaegar dam, this bull displayed exceptional muscling combined with faultless mobility. A son of Fenton Galahad picked up the Reserve Championship award for the Seygorry Herd, with the highly successful Jardiner De La Bonne Raie siring the dam. Bidding was brisk for this April '99 born bull, realizing 2250 guineas. The Chatham Herd of Jack Morrison & Son, Armoy, was in the money at 3400 guineas for a son of the popular Geranti De Maurage. This herd always features well at Club sales, and this one was no exception with a team of five bulls averaging £2825. It took 3250 guineas to secure a first prize winning bull, presented by Jim Sloan, Kilkeel. This bull was bred to perfection with a blend of Classique De St Lambert and Hazelwood Jupiter proving to be a winning formula. Demand for the entry of bulls was excellent resulting is an average of £2285 for a virtual clearance. Many new faces were keen to buy into the Blue success story with females selling to 1700 guineas. This was paid for a classy heifer sired by the mighty Urbi De Bois Borsu. The dam of this in-calf heifer is considered to be one of the best in the Springhill Herd, and comes highly recommended with a Beef Value of BB28. Mackey Brothers realized 1520 guineas for a first prizewinner from their Dromore based farm. This blue & white heifer is sired by Galopeur Des Hayons.
