British Blues Capture Castlewellan

British Blue Cattle Breeders were out in force at the 2010 Castlewellan Show to take both the Interbreed Beef Championship and provide an eye-catching display in the Osmonds Bull Derby.

Andrew Craig came from Coleraine to win the inter-breed award with his female champion, a heifer, judge Cyril Millar called ‘outstanding, with great mobility, conformation and style.’

The annual Osmonds British Blue Bull Derby again produced a display hardly matched at any showground anywhere in the British Isles.

British Blue Cattle Society President Ted Haste was clearly highly impressed, placing first, Zara Chestnutt, Coleraine, second Martin Brothers, Newtownards followed by James Annett of Kilkeel third with Andrew Craig, fourth.

Commenting, Northern Ireland Blue Cattle Club chairman Robert Johnston thanked members province wide, for all their efforts in ‘putting on such a tremendous display at Castlewellan.’

Jalex Team On Winning Form at Castlewellan Show

James Alexander’s commercial show team continued its winning streak at Castlewellan Show at the weekend where there was a terrific entry forward in all classes. This is the third championship in a row for the Toomebridge based Jalex herd, following on from top placings at Armagh and Omagh shows.

Moulin Rouge was Champion Commercial at Castlewellan Show for James Alexander, Toomebridge. A half share has since been sold in a private transaction.

The Champion exhibit was the flashy “Moulin Rouge” a homebred August ‘09 daughter of the successful British Blue stock bull “Ross Willie”. A half share has been sold in this heifer following on from her show debut at the weekend.

Reserve Champion at Castlewellan was the September ‘09 born “Chunky” exhibited by James Alexander

The success story didn’t end there with Jalex also securing the reserve championship with “Chunky”, who was also sired by Ross Willie.
“We are delighted with how this Blue bull is breeding since we snapped him up following on from Tully in 2006. He also bred the Champion at Antrim Show last year, as well as siring many other top grading commercials in our herd.”
