Chelford British Blue Bonanza 2013
Regular Chelford exhibitor; Martin Wilcock of Wigan stood 1st in the heifers and Prime Champion – picked out of an impressive line of cattle by regular supporter and Judge for the day, Alex Nield.
Weighing in at a mighty 642kg she realised 255p/kg (£1637.10) purchased by unstinting Chelford advocate Samuel Howarth on behalf of Neil Mellor (Family Butchers) of Uppermill, Saddleworth.
The day’s top price was another heifer picked from the Wilcock pens, a superb pure heifer hitting the scales at 482kg she realised a fantastic 292p/kg (£1407.44) purchased by Mr Eric Hall on behalf of renowned stockman Geoff Burrow, Kirby Malham, Skipton.
First prize steer was an animal purchased in the Commercials at the Society Sale last July, exhibited by discerning finisher Mr Lawrence Bradbury, weighing 610kg and realising 249p/kg (£1518.90) the purchaser was Mr Harry James of Staffordshire Meat Packers.
In the Cull section, a 2007 born Pedigree cow from Tim Mountford of Wetmoor Farming Co, Gayton, Nr Stafford was the Cull Champion. Weighing 962kg she sold for a fantastic 226p/kg to gross £2174.12 to Mr Owain Llyr of Ruthin. The trade remained buoyant throughout with Mr Matthew Jones of Walton, Nr Telford realising 217p/kg for his 846kg 2007 born Cow.
Bulls sold to 200p/kg for an 830kg Pedigree, once again from Tim Mountford, Stafford.
