Newton Farm Walk

North West Club has a day to remember in the Borders.

Over 120 members and friends gathered for a farm walk at Newton Farm, Annanwater, Moffat by kind courtesy of Brian Ryder and sons Andy and Brian.

NWBBC Farm Walk

The event, initiated by the North West British Blue Cattle Breeders Club draw visitors from as far a field as mid-Wales, Cheshire Yorkshire, Cumbria and the Borders.

Newton Farm, which covers part of the famous and picturesque Border valley, the ‘Devils Beef Tub, supports over 400 head of cattle and in excess of 3,000 head of sheep. In addition to the ‘Annanwater’ herd of Belgian Blues, pure bred Simmental, Limousin and Beef Shorhorn cattle were on show, plus the herd of Galloway suckler cows, being supported out on the hill.

Over 40 head of recipients were seen carrying Belgian Blue embryos. The success the Ryders were demonstrating in this area of the business was a true credit to them and, a their ET consultant Tom Kitpatrick.

On a lighter note Newton Farm is also the home of an imported Percheron stallion and mare with foal in addition to game bantems and wildfowl.

The overall quality of stock on view was second to none and the obvious manner in which the whole family pulled together as a very successful business team was an example to all. It truly was a day to remember.

A vote of thanks was given by Allan Wilkinson, Out Rawcliffe, Preston, Chairman of the North West British Blue Cattle Breeders Club.

The visit concluded with a generous BBQ lunch and grateful thanks is extended to Hazel, Alison and Lisa for doing a great job cooking the meat.

Everybody left for home having had a great day in one of the most beautiful parts of the Scottish Borders.
