Dazzling Day at Blue Diamond Sale

There was a real buzz, which translated into serious bidding in the ring at the Blue Diamond sale held at NWA Kendal on Wednesday September 11th 2013 and an overall result that surpassed expectation.
Highridge Blues Harmony - 20,000gns
The trip from Oakhampton for J&L Dunn was well rewarded with Highridge Blues Harmony, sired by Norbreck Black Beauty and out of the Hawthorn Blueberry dam. She was reserve bred Champion at Devon County Show, knocked down with a final and highest bid on the day of 20,000gns - selling to Richard Tiplady from Keld, Penrith.
Drift Holly - 14,000gns
Next in the ring was Drift Holly from Andrew and Paula Philips and family. Sired by their home bred Drift Domino, out of Ridgedean Dibbley she was shown for the first time this year and winner of many Interbreed Championships, winning at the Royal Bath and West and the Royal Cornwall. Her new home is with Jeff and Loraine Dunn who bought her for 14,000gns.
Graymar Irresistible - 8000gns
Matthew Jones sold Graymar Irresistible, another Drift Domino heifer out of the famous Graymar Electra cow – with show winning sire and dam, she sold for 8,000gns travelling to the Norbreck herd.
The young Norbreck Isabella, sired by Empire D’Ochain and out of Balzer Forget-Me-Not caught the eye of several breeders, but it was Jeff and Loraine Dunn who took her home for 6,000gns.
Selling at 5000gns was Cromwell Gemini from Adam Neachell, a Tamhorn Sumo daughter out of Ballygrange Didio, full sister to Ballygrange Alex. She travels to the Ridge Dean herd of Michelle Wilde. At 4800gns was another Cromwell heifer, January born Cromwell Ismay, a Solway View Firecracker daughter out of Cromwell Ella (a Sumo daughter) bought by Richard Oxley.
The younger heifers proved to be the strongest on the day, with calves averaging £4,325. The demand for the few quality embryos available was also strong – selling up to 700gns and averaging £525. The overall average for 22 cattle sold was £5670.
Commenting Philip Halhead said “the sale exceeded expectations and its success is due to a lot of hard work by the two auctions – Newark and NWA as well as the support from vendors who offered some quality cattle. It was also good to see support from keen British Blue breeders across the breadth of the country who obviously appreciated a gathering of quality animals.”
