Fit to Work ‘Blues’ in Demand at Stirling Sale
British Blue bulls, fit and ready to work, were in great demand at Stirling (Perth) Bull Sales held on Monday 17th February 2014.
The small but quality entry sold to an average of £4672 with an 80% clearance.
The show, capably judged by Ian McGarva, from Abington, Biggar, chose Croftends General ET as his Supreme Champion. General, from JE Bellas & Son, Appleby, Cumbria, a black & white son of the prolific show-winning cow, Croftends Emma and sired by Baroque De L’Ecluse. He later realised the joint top price of 5,000gns, to A & P Munro, Caplich, Alness.
Also at 5,000gns was the 3rd prize Woodview Herbie from Neil Barclay. This Blue & White son of Bluegrass Cyclone and out of the Dafydd sired Woodview Cotto boasts a Carcase Profitability Index of +19. Herbie goes home with L Muir, Orkney.
Auchenlay Hoy from Messrs. Paterson, Upper Auchenlay, Dunblane sold for 4,000gns, having been placed 4th in his class. This dark blue roan son of Tamhorn Ethan and out of the Mountjoy Utopia sired Auchenlay Candy, finds a new home with M Shearer, Lythmore, Thurso.
Selling at 3,800 gns was the 2nd prize winner, Oxcroft Haiwatha from John & Janet Green, Insch, Aberdeen. This black & white son of Netherdale Dram and out of Oxcroft Ebony, travels to Chapel Park, Mintlaw with A Watson.
