Carlisle British Blue Sale
The sale ring at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Friday 23rd January 2015 was packed and there was keen bidding for the small, but very select sale of British Blue cattle which included the new female event for the Blue Classic Ladies.
Topping the sale was Graham Morgan with his 1st prize winning, 20 month old bull Littlederry Ivor which sold for 10,500gns. This long powerful bull was bred by Simon Loughery and is a son of Ballygrange Dalton and out of a Ballygrange Alex daughter Woodview Dessa ET. He sold to Messrs Beckwith of Kirkby Stephen.
Following at 8,000gns was the 4th prize winning young bull from Paul Brannen. Moorsley Iggy, a June 2013 son of Raciste du Pachis a La Motte and out of a Springfield Patrice sired daughter, Hurworth Burn Aster. He was sold to Messrs Atkinson, Ulverston.
The overall male champion of the pre-sale judging followed in the price ratings, selling for 7,500gns. Solway View Inferno from Kevin Watret an eye catching bull which already has an impeccable show record to his credit having won many Championships including the National Calf Show last year, Junior Male Champion RWAS 2014 & Reserve Junior Male Champion RHAS 2014. He was knocked down to Messrs Anderson of Elgin.
Also selling for 7,500gns was Pendle Impretza an entry from Mark & Elaine Hartley of Nelson, Lancs. Impretza stood 1st in his class and is a son of Jalon De Martinpre and out of a Greystone Bonzer sired daughter, Pendle Ella. He sold to Mr Dandie of Broxburn.
Also hitting the high spots was Messrs Coates of Settle with their single entry Greystone Honda, who stood 3rd in his class. Honda, a 26 month old powerful black bull by Greystone Carbon and out of Greystone Dandy, was successfully purchased by Nether Hall Farm Ltd, Mansergh, Carnforth for 7,000gns.
Graham Morgan sold his second entry for 7,000gns to Messrs Rees, Brecon, Powys. Almeley Incredible stood 2nd in his class to the top price bull Littlederry Ivor. Incredible, is a May 2013 son of the 12,500gns bull Drybarrows Cawdale and out of the homebred cow Excess.
BLUE LADIES CLASSIC
Gail Ellis, Trencrom herd, St Ives, Cornwall brought a wagon load of exceptional maiden heifers which sold to average 4,100gns.
The Judge, Andrew Haste from the Stoneleigh Herd, Beaworthy, Devon, put up as his Blue Classic Ladies Female Champion, Trencrom Ima Star ET, a February 2013 heifer, by Boherard Cantona ET and out of Trencrom Ex Factor, by the renowned Bringlee Blackstar ET, being knocked down for 5,800gns, to breeders, Stephen & Sara Hough, Featherstone Herd, Pontefract, W. Yorkshire. Ima Star was part of the 2014 Trencrom show team.
Next from the same stable was the 4th prize winning senior maiden heifer Trencrom Irish Dancer ET, by Tweeddale Ebony (SR) and out of Knockagh Elegant ET. Irish Dancer won the best calf 2013 in the South West Herd Competition and took 1st prize in a very strong class at Devon County Show. After keen bidding she was knocked down for 4,500gns to Victoria Bowring, Mansfield to join her Windmill herd.
Two lots later from the same home Trencrom Inaspin entered the ring and was knocked down for 3,800gns to Messrs Sharp, Chapel Le Dale to join their Ivescar herd. Inaspin stood 2nd in her class to the champion and is by Meadowview Blues Fudge ET and out of Trencrom Be Bop ET by Blak Du Baty D’Dprave (IS).
Kevin Watret sold his 2nd prize winning heifer Solway View Imogen ET for 3,500gns, as a half share to Messrs Griffiths, Lower Penygelly Farm, Newtown & Messrs Pritchard, Hyatt Sarnesfield, Hereford. Imogen is out of the Colos Van Daisel (IS) and Broomfield Vivien flush. Vivien is the best breeding cow in the herd and winner of many championships.
The Reserve Female Championship went to Tanat Iris ET from Wyn Jones, Oswestry. This 16 month old junior maiden heifer is out of the Boherard Cantona ET and Tanat Friendly ET flush. She was knocked down for 2,800gns and travels to Milton Keynes to join the Littlewood herd of AJ Geary.
